Everyday Jeans Guide

A jean that carries well does three things: it holds the holster without sagging, it keeps the gun from printing, and it looks like an ordinary pair of jeans. This guide covers the jeans on the Civilian Carry Wear launch list, in the order we would try them.

The three jeans to start with

5.11 Defender-Flex Jeans — $98 per fit at 5.11 Tactical. Straight, Bootcut, Slim, and Regular fits. The jean at the center of this guide — and our test setup: 5.11 Defender-Flex Slim, plus a wider pair for boots.

Vertx Defiance Jeans — $95.99 at Vertx. Vertx’s carry-ready jean, built for concealed carry that reads as an ordinary pair of jeans.

LA Police Gear Terrain Flex Straight Jean — $55 at LA Police Gear. The budget-friendly jean on the list, kept per our photo review.

Also on the launch list

Viktos Operatus CCW Jean — $85 at Viktos. Born Primitive FLEX Recon Straight Leg Jean — $90 at Born Primitive. LAPG Core Flex 6 Pocket Jean — $39 at LA Police Gear, the least expensive jean on the list.

What to look for

Waistband: the waistband has to hold the holster and the belt without rolling or sagging. A proper gun belt (see the carry belt guide) matters as much as the jean.

Rise and fit: a jean that is too tight prints; a jean that is too loose sags. Try your normal size first, then one size up, with your actual holster and belt.

Stretch: a little stretch helps the jean move with you and sit over the gun. Too much stretch, and the waistband won’t hold the holster.

Pockets: pockets should stay low-profile. No screaming brand names, no tactical-looking cargo pockets on a jean.

Our setup

5.11 Defender-Flex Slim, plus a wider pair for boots. Belt: KORE Essentials EDC Gun Belt Bundle #4. Holster: Tier 1 Concealed (model to be confirmed from our photos). Cover garment: still to be confirmed.

A note on honesty

There’s no one setup that guarantees invisible carry for everyone — bodies, guns, and clothing sizes are all different, and finding what works for you takes some trial and error. That’s normal. Everything here is a setup that worked for a real person — someone on our team, or a creator we follow — with their build and carry position noted where we know it. Use these as starting points, not promises. If something here doesn’t work for you, that doesn’t mean you did it wrong; it means you keep adjusting until it fits you.
